Counterfeit bills used at three businesses

PALATKA, Fla. – After three business in the Palatka area were hit by people passing counterfeit $100 bills, the Palatka Police Department is on the search for the people who may be involved.

Police said that all three incidents happened on Monday, with the first taking place around 6:45 p.m. The suspectpassed numerous counterfeit $100 bills in exchange for money orders at a Kangaroo Store on State Road 19 North in Palatka.

The suspect was described as a black female with a medium build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, wearing a Florida Gators T-shirt and jean shorts or skirt.

She possibly left the business in a silver colored vehicle, which could have been a Chrysler PT Cruiser or a Chevrolet HHR, police said.

Police have released photos and video surveillance of the suspect to help identify the suspect.

Officials said that the second incident happened around 7:25 p.m. when a suspect matching the same description tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at another Kangaroo Store on State Road 19 South.

A clerk at that Kangaroo checked the bill and found out that it was counterfeit, and when she confronted the suspect, the woman took off.

According to reports, the third incident happened at a Family Dollar Store on Reid Street in Palatka, where a white man and woman came into the store and tried to pass a fake $100 bill.

The clerk at that store also noticed that the bill was fake and tried to stop the suspects, who took off before police were able to arrive.
