JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An 84,000-pound proton accelerator disrupt traffic in Mandarin briefly Saturday morning, then be lifted into a new oncology center being built on San Jose Boulevard at Interstate 295.
The 120-foot truck carrying the massive medical device built in Boston is expected to arrive about 9 a.m., where it will be lifted through a hole in the ceiling of First Coast Oncology's new building with only 6 inches of clearance.
It will become the first private treatment site in the world to offer proton therapy.
