Crash closes Old St. Augustine Road for 7 hours

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detouring traffic through morning rush hour

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A crash early Wednesday morning closed all lanes of Old St. Augustine Road south of Interstate 295 and north of Loretto Road for seven hours, causing a traffic nightmare for Mandarin commuters and parents of four schools in the area.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a car hit a power pole at Oldfield Crossing Drive shortly after 3 a.m.  The driver was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries.  The extent of those injuries was unknown.

Police reopened northbound lanes of Old St. Augustine just after 9 a.m., and southbound traffic resumed at 10 a.m.

Officers directed parents taking their kids to Loretto Road Elementary School, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandarin High School and Greenland Pines Elementary School.

JEA reported more than 200 customers without electricity between Oldfield Crossing Drive and Loretto Road.  JEA estimated it would be restored by 11:30 a.m.
