Police ID pedestrian killed on Beach Boulevard

Former Times-Union writer Jonathan Rogers, 77, hit, killed in crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 77-year-old Jacksonville man was hit and killed early Wednesday morning on Beach Boulevard in the St. Nicholas area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said Jonathan A. Rogers had parked his car and was attempting to cross Beach Boulevard about 6:40 a.m. when a westbound vehicle approaching Palmer Street hit him.

Rogers died at the scene, police said. No charges are pending against the driver.

According to the Florida Times-Union, Rogers was a former feature writer and restaurant reviewer for the newspaper and worked for the Times-Union for almost 20 years.

All westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of Beach Boulevard were closed from Palmer Terrace to San Mateo Avenue, with all traffic detoured onto Atlantic Boulevard, while police investigated the crash.
