UNF former Aquatic Center catches fire

Damage reported to roof of Aquatic Center; cause of fire unknown

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Renovations to the former University of North Florida Aquatic Center caused a small fire in the roof of the building Tuesday night.

Firefighters received a call at 9:29 p.m. Tuesday about a fire at the former Aquatic Center at UNF.

Officials say sparks from equipment renovation crews were using got into the roof causing a small fire that left visible damage to the building.

UNF Police said no one was inside the Aquatic Center at the time of the fire because of the renovations.

The school said that the original budget for the renovations would cover the cost of the damage the fire caused.
