A spokeswoman with Forestry said the brush fire was caused by lightning two to three days ago. Friday's high winds and low humidity brought the fire to the surface.

The other fire is in Mandarin, just north of Old St. Augustine Road and west of I-95. The brush fire is about 10 acres and is near the Palmetto Leaves Regional Park.

Both fires are creating some smoke but are not a threat. The Florida Forestry Service crews are using bulldozers to take control of the fires.

The Florida Highway Patrol and Forestry encourage drivers to use caution when traveling in these smokey areas. FHP asked that motorists reduce their speed as necessary to avoid a collision and use their low-beam headlights to adapt to changing weather conditions.
