JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Channel 4 checked in Wednesday night with Crime and Safety Expert Ken Jefferson to see what went right and what went wrong during Tuesday's bomb scare at Jacksonville International Airport.
"The main thing that was done right immediately was that the TSA worker was conscientious of the fact that this person made a statement, a spontaneous statement. That he had a bomb and he immediately contacted officials," said Jefferson.
Jefferson said the quick action by the TSA agent helped get the situation under control.
"He immediately acted, he had him immediately subdued, until they were able to try to figure out what was actually happening," said Jefferson. "The second thing is when they evacuated the entire airport, you can't take any chances. You have one person that's saying he has a bomb. So evacuate the entire facility the way that they did it, without injury to anyone, without a stampede, was the right thing to do."
Jefferson also praised the immediate action to notify the media about what was happening inside the airport.
"Thirdly, what they did right was immediately let the media know what was going on," said Jefferson. "They did everything they could to make sure the public was safe. Now if you want to find fault with that because you were inconvenienced and you had to go out a side door instead of a front door, or you had to wait for four hours, then people can find fault with that, but you can't put a price or a time on your life."
