Sheriff's Office: robbery suspect pointed gun at off-duty deputy

Clay County deputies searching for robbery suspects

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff's Office is searching for four suspected robbers, one who reportedly pointed a gun at an off-duty deputy.

According to Colonel Craig Aldrich of the Clay County Sheriff's Office, the deputy was out to dinner with his wife at a shopping center near Blanding Boulevard and Branan Field Road. While he was in the parking lot, that deputy said he saw four young men running out of an AT&T store. He believed the men had just robbed the store.

The deputy got out of his personal vehicle, chased the suspects and identified himself as a sheriff's deputy. Officials say the four men got into a car and one of them pointed a gun at the deputy. The deputy then fired his gun at the suspects' car as it drove away.

Investigators said the men drove away in a four-door vehicle, but they are not sure about the vehicle's make or model.

Aldrich said investigators are currently working leads in this case.

Anyone with information that could help catch the four robbers is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
