JSO investigates shooting on I-95 ramp onto MLK

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police were called to the scene of what appears to be a drive-by shooting on the I-95 ramp onto Martin Luther King Parkway, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the victim was driving on the ramp, early Sunday morning, with one other person in the car, when at least two gunshots hit his car.

The victim left his car on the ramp and was driven to the hospital. Officials at UF Health called JSO to inform them a person walked in with a non-life threatening  gun shot wound. JSO believes the shooting happened after the victim had left an unnamed night club in the area.

Officers are waiting for the victim to recover so he can be questioned.

By News4Jax records this is the fourth drive-by in 2016.  Some of them were deadly. Crime and safety analyst Gil Smith says drive bys are difficult to solve. But there's one thing investigators will look into.

"The most important thing is to find out why. A lot of people focus on who. But they'll be looking at why. If you can figure out why, quite often it will lead you to who," Smith said.
