Sanders had raped the female victim in downtown Jacksonville in March 2002, according to state attorneys.

During the incident, Sanders covered the victim's head with a blanket and threatened to kill her if she was not quiet, state attorneys said. He then led the victim around the corner, shoved her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

Sanders fled the area after the attack. State attorneys said the investigation later revealed that Sander's DNA matched the DNA recovered from the victim after the incident.

Sanders was convicted of the charges in November.
