Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is fighting allegations that he knocked a security guard unconscious during a fight at a St. Augustine restaurant on Sunday night.
A criminal allegation was filed against Jones-Drew for an incident that happened at the Conch House restaurant and b Sunday during what is known as Reggae Sundays.
Police reports indicate that an altercation involving one of Jones-Drew's friends began, and that's when he got involved.
The complaint reads that a witness saw "Maurice Jones-Drew, punch the alleged victim from his left side" and that a witness stated "the punch knocked the alleged victim out"
Jones-Drew's agent tweeted shortly after the news broke: "Maurice was there and was not involved. As Soon as an altercation broke out, Maurice exited the premises."
Since the incident, there was a national press frenzy over whether Jones-Drew was charged with misdemeanor battery. St. Augustine police initially said he had been, then hours later the department changed their tune saying it was only a criminal complaint, and that the State Attorney's Office would decide if Jones-Drew is charged.
A St. Augustine police spokesperson said Jones-Drew is cooperating with the investigation and he will be returning to St. Augustine to talk with detectives.
