JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With temperatures forecast to approach freezing every night through the weekend, the City Rescue Mission (CRM) is preparing to activate its "Operation Cold Shelter" to accommodate homeless men and women who are unable to get a bed in a traditional shelter.
The "Operation Cold Shelter" program is provided at the New Life Inn located at 234 W. State St. in downtown Jacksonville.
"Operation Cold Shelter" is activated when the overnight temperature is forecast to drop below 40 degrees in the downtown area.

Because of the expected drop in temperatures this week, the CRM is gearing up for what volunteers hope is "the last bout of really cold weather this year." Hats and blankets are ready to be given out, in addition to extra beds and meals to meet the need of those looking for warmth.
"During these cold nights we always find room for all and are grateful for our ability to house those in need," executive director Penny Kievet said.
The CRM will open its doors at 2:30 for check-in. Once the temperature rises above 40 degrees the following morning, the guests will check out.
The CRM has been caring for the homeless and needy in Northeast Florida since 1946. The mission is funded by individuals, business, foundations and churches and accepts no government funding.
