Pedestrian killed crossing University Blvd. S.

Police say driver stopped at scene and is cooperating

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pedestrian was struck and killed crossing University Boulevard South early Tuesday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Paul Short said the man, who was possibly homeless, was hit by one car and possibly a second while crossing the street at the intersection of Bennett Road, just south of Memorial Hospital.

The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

Police said the car who hit the pedestrian and a witness both stopped at the scene and were cooperating.

University Boulevard South was completely closed from Kennerly Road to Bennett Road for several hours, while Traffic Homicide detectives continued to investigate.

The name of the victim and information about whether there would be any charges filed in the case.
