Democrat takes first step to run for attorney general

Rep. Jay Fant, R-Jacksonville, also candidate

Hillsborough County Democrat Ryan C. Torrens has opened a campaign account to run for attorney general in 2018, becoming the first Democrat to take the initial step toward trying to succeed term-limited Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to the state Division of Elections website.

Torrens joined Rep. Jay Fant, R-Jacksonville, as the first candidates to emerge for the race. Fant formally launched his campaign after the legislative session ended this month.
