Deputies foil burglary suspect's plan

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – Columbia County deputies foiled a burglary suspect's escape plan after a break-in at a home early Friday morning, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said a resident called 911 at about 4:20 a.m. and reported seeing a man climb the fence into Green's Marine at 1613 E. Duval St. and tamper with the security camera at the business.

Deputies were on scene in a matter of minutes and set a perimeter around the business.

Deputies said they notified the business owner, who responded and allowed access so the deputies could check the inside. They said there was evidence that someone had been inside and as the search advanced.

Cody Croft, 27, was found on the roof hiding from the deputies, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Croft was arrested and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, grand theft, tampering with evidence and trespassing.
