A man is being sought in connection with a strong arm robbery Monday morning at a Kangaroo store, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
The victim, a 38-year-old employee, said she arrived at the store at 2800 U.S. 1 South at 5:30 a.m. and was preparing the store for opening when she found the man in the office area.
Deputies said the man told her he had recently lost his job and demanded money for his children's Christmas. The victim then went to the front of the store and gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash.
The robber escorted the woman back to the rear office and then fled out the front door, deputies said.
Investigators said the man had entered the store through the roof sometime during the early morning hours and waited until the woman arrived to confront her.
The robber is described as a white man in his mid-20s to early 30s, 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing a dark hat, grey plaid shirt and blue jeans, and a white or grey shirt was covering his face, leaving only his eyes open. He did not display a weapon.
Anyone with any information concerning the man's identity or whereabouts is asked to call Detective Thomas Marmo at the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-209-2191 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS (8477).
