Deputies try to ID 3 men in sunglasses theft

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Deputies in Clay County are trying to identify three men in connection with the theft of sunglasses earlier this month.

Investigators said the three went into Sunglass Hut at the Orange Park Mall about 11 a.m. Feb. 4. Two of the men distracted the sales associate while the third stole two pairs of sunglasses worth $379.

While talking to the sales associate, the men said they were taking part in "senior skip day" from a school in Jacksonville, deputies said. They don't know if an actual "skip day" was going on or if that was just their cover story for not being in school on that day.

Detectives said they have shared the surveillance photos with the Duval County Public Schools Police Department in hopes of obtaining identifications, but they're also asking for the public's help in identifying the thieves.

Anyone with any information on their identities is asked to call Detective Adam Graff at 904-264-6512.
