Digging into day cares: 10 with perfect scores

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – News4Jax continues our series on looking into local child care facilities to see which ones are up to code.

The Department of Children and Families provided 14 reports on child care facilities to New4Jax to review this week. In a positive turn, 10 of those 14 facilities were fully compliant.

The facilities with perfect inspection reports were:

  • Victorious Learning Center on Edison Avenue
  • Chappell Corretta King at FSCJ Downtown on West State Street
  • Lutheran Services Florida 8th Street Head Start
  • Little Friends on Hendricks Avenue
  • Hope Haven Children's Clinic and Family Center on Beach Boulevard
  • Primrose School of Glen Kernan on Hodges Boulevard
  • Deermeadows Preschool on Baymeadows Road
  • Jewish Community Alliance on San Jose Boulevard
  • Merry Pop-Ins Child Care Center on St. Johns Avenue
  • Peck Head Start on South 10th Street in Fernandina Beach

Of the four facilities with violations, two had two violations and two had one violation each.

Emerald City Learning Center on Soutel Drive had two violations, including an uncleaned potty chair and a staff training violation. Both were corrected during the inspection.

Precious Angels Child Care and Learning Center on Arlington Road also had two violations, including missing documents in a staff member's record and a failure to conduct a tornado drill in the previous year. The record violation was corrected during the inspection and a deadline was given for completing the tornado drill.

First Little Star Daycare on University Boulevard North and Around the Clock Kid Care and Preschool on Blanding Boulevard each had one violation during their inspection. First Little Star was missing some health records for its children, and Around the Clock was missing background screening documents for two employees. Deadlines were given to both facilities to correct the violations.
