Dive team returns to neighborhood where 5 people shot

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office continues looking for suspects in deadly shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police returned to a northwest Jacksonville neighborhood Friday, three days after two people were killed and three others were injured in a drive-by shooting.

Anthony Ray, 18, one of four people taken to UF Health Jacksonville after Tuesday evening's shooting on Ella Street, died at the hospital. On Wednesday, police located the body of 19-year-old Trayvon Deshay Lundy in a ditch on West 10th Street, less than 2 blocks away. Homicide detectives said his death resulted from the same incident, which they said followed an argument between the victims and whoever was in the car.

Officials said the intense rainfall the night of the shooting was so severe that the body found Wednesday was hidden by water.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office divers were back in the ditch Friday morning looking for evidence in the homicide investigation.

Police have not named the other three shooting victims, who had non-life-threatening injuries. One was out of the hospital the next day and told News4Jax he was shot in the neck and should make a complete recovery.

News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith said police will now use whatever information they can get out of the surviving victims, but that may not be a lot.

"These people are being very tight-lipped about this," Smith said. "If they're not going to even tell that one of their friends (that) was here with them that's missing ... they're not really giving much information."

Smith said if a gang is involved, the survivors won't say a word to police or anyone else, which will make it hard to solve the crime.

Residents of the neighborhood around the shooting are frightened. Most residents wouldn't talk to News4Jax Friday out of fear of retaliation.

"(I) fear for my husband and children," one woman said. "Every time I walk outside, everyone's looking at me and like 'You're next; you're next.' I don't know what I'm supposed to do."

Anyone with information about the shooting or the location of the car involved is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and could be receive a reward of up to $3,000.
