LAKE CITY, Fla. – An employee at a doctor's office in Lake City has been arrested on charges of prescription fraud.
Shelli Fletcher, 30, who's worked for Dr. David Fanney's office for about seven years, was stealing prescription sheets and forging the doctor's signature, according to police.

The Lake City Police Department responded to the complaint in August.
Police said the case was initiated after reports from CVS Pharmacy to Fanney that Fletcher had filed a "suspicious" prescription with his signature. Having not signed the prescription, he requested more information and discovered that Fletcher had been filling prescriptions at both CVS locations in Lake City for more than a year, police said.
Investigators said the found that since Sept. 1, 2011, 43 fraudulent prescriptions were filled for Fletcher, all for Schedule II narcotics, such as oxycodone, hydrocodone and Adderall. Copies of all prescriptions were obtained and presented to Fanney, who confirmed that none were genuine, police said.
Additionally, investigators said they discovered that Fletcher had called in several prescriptions and had also answered the phone at work numerous times impersonating another employee to verify the prescription.
Police said Fletcher had fraudulently billed all prescriptions to her insurance.
The day that the fraudulent prescriptions were discovered, Fletcher called CVS after work to inquire as to whether or not her prescriptions were ready and was informed that they had been denied, police said. They said she did not return to work for her following shift, and investigators were unable to locate her afterward for questioning.
A warrant was filed on Fletcher for 43 counts of prescription fraud, 43 counts of insurance fraud, 25 counts of forgery of a signature on a prescription, and 23 counts of theft of prescription sheets.
Fletcher was found Tuesday in Mayo and was arrested. She was transported to Columbia County, where she is being held with a $215,000 bond.
