PALM COAST, Fla. -

Detectives in Flagler County are asking for the public's help in finding the man responsible for burglarizing a Dollar General Store in Palm Coast. The Flagler County Sheriff’s office released surveillance video Tuesday of the robber in hopes that the public will recognize the man and turn him in.

Deputies responded to a commercial burglar alarm at the store around 12:25 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the surveillance video captured the suspect using a pipe to bust through the sliding glass doors at the Dollar General. Investigators said the man didn’t take off with any merchandise, but caused severe damage to the building.

They said they found a white plastic garbage bag at the entrance to the store and another matching garbage bag near the cigarette display on the employee side of the front register.

The Sheriff’s Office estimates that the man seen in surveillance video at the Dollar General store caused about $5,000 worth of damage to the store.

“I would think somebody knows who it is,” said Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Commander Jeffrey Stuart. "Good thing was, it was after hours, there was nobody here, but it easily could've been populated."

A store video shows a white man dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, with black gloves and wearing cut-off blue denim jeans and light-colored sneakers enter the business through the front door. The man appears to have a medium to large build and is about 6 feet tall.

He is seen on the video jumping onto the counter, then jumping behind the counter, holding a garbage bag. He then attempts to break the cigarette display case, and when that is unsuccessful, he jumps back over the counter and runs out of the store.

“It looks like a white male, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, cut off blue jeans, light colored shoes. It looks like after he exits the building you can see him pick up a bicycle out front and he headed in a westward direction,” said Stuart.

While detectives remain hopeful that they’ll get a break in the case soon, they are applauding the store managers who they say have the right safeguards in place, to keep even the most determined criminals walking out empty handed.

“I think Dollar General did a great job, they had solid glass on the front, they couldn’t break through that," said Stuart. "They had cigarettes secured very well, the alarm sounded. Did everything you’re supposed to do. So as long as they follow those things, I think everybody will be okay.”

Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call the Flagler County Sheriff's Office at 386-313-4911 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-8477.
