JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Dozens gathered on Saturday to remember and honor Lisa Venet, who was shot and killed on Dec. 29 inside a Westside Applebee's Restaurant.

Veney's 44-year-old husband, Sheridan Veney, as arrested at the scene and is charged in her murder.

Veney's 18-year-old daughter, Sierra Veney, had been home for the holidays from the military and witnessed the shooting.

For the first time, Sierra spoke publicly about her mother's death.

"She never deserved anything like this. I mean, nobody does, but she's just such a loving person and I hate the fact that this had to happen," said Sierra. "She really didn't deserve it."

Ma ny of Veney's family and friends gathered outside of the restaurant Saturday for a candlelight vigil. They held green candles for her favorite color and wore T-shirts in her honor.

Those who knew Veney (pictured) said she was a kind person, an avid football fan, but most of all, she was a loving mother.

"She loved her kids. They were just, they were so close, and that's the hard part because her and her daughter were really close and her son," said Toi Potts, Lisa Veney's friend. "They were just all close."

"Her children was her life. That was all she -- every time you saw her, you would see her kids," said Roshawn Young, a friend.

Family and friends have set up an account at VyStar Credit Union to help pay for Veney's burial:  account number 7504512121; routing number 263079276.
