Early morning crash kills 2 in Jacksonville Beach

Witnesses reported fast, reckless driving

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A 31-year-old man and a 27-year old woman were killed early Sunday morning in a crash on 11th Avenue South at A1A, according to a spokesperson from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

Cmdr. Mark Evans said 31-year-old, John Groves was driving a Honda at a high rate of speed when he crossed the median and struck a Volkswagen Golf driven by 27-year-old Bloneva Palmer.

Palmer was killed instantly. Evans said firefighters had to cut Groves out of the car. He was taken by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died a short time later.

Evans said witnesses reported Groves was driving recklessly.

An investigation is under way to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash.
