When officers arrived, they found a 33-year-old black man with a gunshot wound to his left leg.

The man told police he was leaving a convenience store, walking north on Tyler Street, when a four-door gold car traveling Southbound with several people inside approached him.

According to JSO, the man said someone from inside the car said something that he couldn't understand when a person got out of with a black handgun. The victim said an altercation occurred and that two gunshots were fired, one hitting him in the leg.

JSO said they don't know at this point if the shooting was random or if the victim knew the people inside the car.

It appeared the person who shot the man did so from outside of the car, according to an officer with JSO.

"It does not appear that the victim was shot from the car. The assailant was outside the car and actually engaged with the victim at the time of the shooting."
