superintendent Dr.Nikolai Vitti says he knows there's a lot of work to do to turn around the county's "F" schools...but a lot has to be done to fix several CHARTER SCHOOLS. A disproportionate number of charter schools ended up with an F grade this year..in fact 32 percent of all charter schools in Duval have failing grades. One administrator thinks he has the formula to turn those charters around. 3 00-0522-27 Wayne Peterson is the academic director of Global Outreach Charter School. and he's beginning to get a reputation as a turnaround specialist. He took over SOS-school of Success Academy- when the charter had an F grade and was faced with being shut down if it didn't improve. SOS went from an F to a C in just one year. His solution: Wayne Peterson/Academic Dir., Global Outreach Charter School 4601LEADERSHIP WAS CRUCIAL WE HAD A CONSULTING FIRM DR JAMES YOUNG.. THOSE WERE KEY THE RIGHT PERSONNEL AS WELL AS THE WAY WE TAUGHT AND DELIVERED INSTRUCTION.4616Now he's the head man at Global and he brought his know-how with him. In just one year he turned Global's F grade into a C this year. The trick he says is to get the right people in the right jobs...and treat it like a business.4925IF WE LOOK AT OUR SCHOOLS AS A CORPORATION OR ORGANIZATION THEN WE CAN PROVIDE PROPER LEADERSHIP THAT WOULD MOTIVATE AND INSPIRE TEACHERS PARENTS AND STUDENTS.4935Although peterson says you can't have one solution for every school..his method seems to be working at Global and SOS. 4937WE WERE ABLE TO INSPIRE THE ENTIRE BODY THAT IMPACTED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND IT WORKED.4944 3 High school grades were not released this morning. Those usually come out in December.
