Baby killed in crash on Jacksonville's Northside

Six others injured; taken to U.F. Health Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed an 8-month-old child and injured six others. It happened about 3:30 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 17 in Jacksonville.

Florida Highway Patrol says 25-year-old Preston Momin was driving a 2008 Land Rover was traveling southbound on U.S. 17 with four passengers.

Troopers say as Momin turned left toward the Interstate 295 east beltway ramp into the path of a Ford Explorer traveling north on U.S. 17.

Investigators said Charles Nelson, the driver of the Explorer, was unable to stop and hit the right side of the Land Rover.

One of the two people inside the Explorer suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to U.F. Health. Of the five people inside the Land Rover, one passenger died, 8-month-old Cadin Momin.

The driver and another passenger, Heather Momin, were taken to UF Health with minor injuries. Two other passengers were taken to UF Health with serious injuries.

FHP said the baby was in a car seat but it is still investigating if the seat was properly installed. Investigators are waiting to confirm if alcohol was a factor.
