A judge indicates there will be no quick decision on a sentence for a Nassau County man found guilty of aggravated manslaughter in the drowning death of his 9 month old son. A jury convicted 35- year-old Robert Jerrell last month ..because he left the baby, Aaron Jerrell, alone in a bathtub back in May of 2012. Today, the judge heard testimony at a sentencing hearing. Channel 4's Kumasi Aaron was there. 3 3 3 00-0515-201:08-1:13KUMASI LOOK LIVE INTRO: It got very emotional at times here at the Nassau County Courthouse as the judge listened to testimony from Jerrells family, and eventually from Jerrell himself. He told the judge what happened to his son was the biggest mistake of his life and he would always carry it with him.TAKE VO: His statement came after about an hour and a half of testimony. The defense brought up several of Jerrell's family members, all of whom talked about how good of a father Jarell was to Aaron, the 9 month old who died, and they plesded to the judge to not leave his other three year old son without a father.Jarell's mother and wife took the stand as well, both saying that losing a son has been enough punishment for Jerrell and their family. The state countered saying the jury found Jerrell to be negligent, bringing up his issues with substance abuse. Prosecutors also brought up Jerrels failure to complete the DCF programs needed to actually see his 3 year old son.Sentencing guidelines suggest 13 years for Jerrell. The prosecution asked the judge for 25, saying Jerrell is a habitual felony offender. But the defense said this was an isolated incident and asked for probation with some kind of drug rehabilitation that would allow him to return to his family.KUMASI LOOK LIVE TAG: We tried to speak with Jerrell's family and his attorney they did not want to comment at this time. The judge will make his decision on sentencing here on January 30th.In Nassau County Kumasi Aaron Channel 4, The Local Station.
