Family, friends gather to remember bicyclist shot, killed

Family asks for community's help finding answers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville mother pleaded for the public's help Thursday night. Her 18-year-old son, AJ McGauley was shot and killed on June 5 just a half mile away from his home.

"Please, please come forward. I can't rest until I get justice for my baby," said McGauley's mother, Sherri.

McGauley's friends and family gathered for a vigil Thursday night in his honor on Carleon Road, where McGauley was shot and killed.

McGauley was shot in the chest while riding his bike in his own neighborhood.

Deborah Taylor said she and her husband heard the shooting and called police.

"I feel for his mother so much, I wish there was more I could have done," said Taylor.

Police are still looking for answers in this case as well. They are not sure if this was a random or targeted shooting.

With more questions than answers, the McGauley family is holding hope that their son's killer will be brought to justice.

"People don't know how deep this love runs," said McGauley. "I gave him life but he gave me reason for living. So please, please hear this mother's cry."

McGauley's funeral is being held in Waycross, Ga. on Saturday at 11:00 am.

If you have any information on McGauley's death, please call Duval County Crime Stoppers, 1-866-845 TIPS.
