Family mourns 26-year-old shot, killed Sunday

Bobby Norris one of three killed in apparent shootout on Northside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Days after two men and a teenager were killed in an apparent shootout in North Jacksonville, family members of one of the men are breaking their silence.

News4Jax spoke to the relatives of 26-year-old Bobby Norris III, the man killed inside the home on Linda Drive Sunday evening. They said they are shocked and saddened by the senseless act of violence.

"He was not a troublemaker. He didn't get in trouble at school at all," said Joseph Jones, Norris' uncle. "And he has no record, no record at all. His record is clean."

Norris' relatives are having a tough time dealing with what happened. They said Norris was with his family all day and had just stopped by the cookout when the bullets started flying.

Deveric Jones remembers his brother as a happy-go-lucky guy. Only two years apart in age, Deveric Jones and Norris (pictured below) were best friends, and they loved sports, even though they couldn't agree on a team.

"He was a Seminole, and I hated it. Hated it, ha, ha," said Deveric Jones, a Miami Hurricanes fan.

Now Deveric Jones is left empty -- a void in his heart -- after his little brother was shot down Sunday evening.

Bobby Norris III, 26, was shot and killed inside a home on Linda Drive Sunday evening.

Sources familiar with the investigation said police are looking into the possibility the other man, 20-year-old Deanta Holsey, and the teen, 17-year-old Prosper Natron Johnson, came to the house and started shooting.

"They say shortly after (Norris) got there, that's when the incident occurred," said Joseph Jones. "So that is just how it happened. He wasn't hanging out there all day. That wasn't the case. ... Figures more like a random shooting."

Joseph Jones said Norris didn't cause any problems.

"He was a very friendly, likable person," Joseph Jones said. "I didn't know anyone that did not like him. I can tell you that."

Norris was a good man, a family man with no criminal record, stopping by a friend's place at the wrong time, his family said.

"We deeply, deeply, deeply miss him. We haven't accepted the fact yet that he is gone," Joseph Jones said. "He is the kind of kid that any parent would be glad to say, 'This is my son.'"

As police continue to investigate, Norris' family is trying to forget the senseless violence that claimed his life and remember the good times.

"(He was a) strong believer in God. We always talked about keeping the faith, always keeping faith no matter what we go through. Trials and tribulations, just keeping faith," said Deveric Jones.

Norris' family is trying to make funeral plans for him right now. His mother, who was too upset to speak on camera, said, "I miss my baby."

Police have not made any arrests in the shooting.
