Family left homeless by fire on Hardee Street

Fire marshal investigating cause

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters responded to a Northwest Jacksonville house fire early Thursday morning that badly damaged a family's home.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said five people were inside the home at 1887 Hardee Street, including four adults and one child. All were able to get out safely.

The call went out at 1:15 a.m. and it took firefighters nearly 90 minutes to get the flames under control.

JFRD said the fire started on the back porch and the people inside the house heard the fire and smelled smoke.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital after becoming lightheaded, probably due to dehydration, a fire chief told News4JAX. He is expected to be alright.

It's unknown what caused the fire but the state fire marshal is investigating.
