Investigators arrested 21-year-old Euric Cain on Monday morning and said he is the man in the surveillance video seen carrying a woman Friday.

According to police, the suspect was dragging the woman to his parked SUV, when Gold stepped in and tried to help her.

Gold's cousin Bryan Baker lives in Jacksonville Beach and couldn't believe waking up to the national news that his cousin had been shot -- trying to be a good Samaritan.

"I just, still shake my head at the situation that he's alive. Can't believe it. I don't know how many other people would've done that," Baker said.

The Tulane University student stepped out of a vehicle, that's when police say the man pointed his gun at gold, and demanded money. He then shot gold and then tried to shoot him again but the gun jammed.

The gunman took the woman's purse and escaped in an SUV.

"You can call it divine intervention, you can call it pure luck. whatever it was, we're just thankful it happened," said Baker.

Gold's cousin is thankful and even the quality of the surveillance video, he said was excellent evidence against the shooter.

Gold is in the hospital in guarded condition.

Meanwhile, Baker said it was great Gold tried to save the woman, but said there was a safer way to handle what happened.

"In hindsight we all want to help people and do things for others. But the family would not want anyone in the same situation to put themselves in harm's way. Call 911, let them handle it," he said.

The woman being carried by the suspect, was reportedly treated for minor injuries and has since been released.

The suspect Euric Cain (pictured to the left) reportedly gave police a full confession.

Cain faces a number of charges,  including attempted first-degree murder and a woman was also arrested as an accessory after the fact, in connection with the crime.
