Family: No warning signs before woman killed

Accused killer's sister speaks out

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – For the first time, Channel 4 heard from the family of the man accused of shooting and killing his ex-wife last week in Oakleaf.

Clay County Deputies said LaShawna Criswell-Seward was gunned down while moving things out of her home, just a few days after her marriage had officially ended.

Adrian Seward was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the crime.

Channel 4 spoke exclusively with Seward's sister Friday night, saying she's still devastated over the crime.

Rhonda Seward (pictured, right) said there were no signs and she doesn't understand how this could have happened.

"It's hard to deal with this because I didn't know that something was wrong to lead to this," said Rhonda Seward. "I love LaShawna. She was like a sister to me."

Rhonda said the couple never had any major issues that she knew of during their marriage. Even when the couple was going through a divorce, Rhonda said she and Criswell were still very close.

LaShawna's body was found shot to death on her neighbor's doorstep last week. After nearly three days on the run, Seward was arrested at a Jacksonville hotel. Seward and her son went to visit Adrian in jail this week.

"He doesn't really know what went on himself and how everything that was so perfect and normal could turn so tragic," said Seward. "He's not saying he did not do it, so with that I am almost certain he did."

The couple didn't have any children together, but LaShawna leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter. LaShawna Criswell-Seward will be laid to rest Saturday in Pittsburgh.
