JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One year after three people were killed in a hit-and-run crash on the Northside, their families still don't know who was driving the silver sedan that police say hit the BMW the three were riding in, causing it to crash into a tree and burst into flames.
The crash happened on Duval Station Road near North Main Street in Oceanway in March 2016.
A memorial by the side of the road honors the lives of Kyle Cassani, 23, Allison Bushey, 21 and her boyfriend, Curtis Carlisle, 24.
Their families are still desperate for answers in the case.
“It’s all a dream to me in a lot of ways, but, you know, I’m really empty about it,” said Lisa Askren, Cassani's mother. “I want to know who did it. I want to know why. Even if it was an accident, I still want to know.”
Cassani left behind a baby daughter who's now 18 months old.
“This year has been very horrific. I couldn’t stand any of the holidays and, you know, especially from Halloween through New Years – very hard times,” Askren said.
An electronic billboard on I-95 asks for people who know something to please come forward.
And Askren has a message for the driver of the silver sedan.
“Just please come forward,” Askren said. “We’re not angry at them. Accidents happen and are not always their fault. But come forward, let us know what happened. We want to know. We want that closure.”
Cassani’s family is planning to release lanterns near their home in Nassau County at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
