Family's power restored just in time for freeze

Arlington family without power for 17 hours after Monday's severe storms

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One Jacksonville family spent 17 hours in the dark after power to the family's home was knocked out by Monday's severe storm.

A tree fell onto a powerline and then the roof of Joseph Blodget's home on Easthill Drive in Arlington on Monday afternoon.

Blodget said the power was spotty for about 12 hours and then around 1 a.m. JEA cut the power to the house because of safety concerns.

"The tree was down and power lines were touching the ground," Blodget said. "It could have sparked."

Tuesday night power was restored after a a JEA crew worked for about 45 minutes in the area. Blodget said the first thing he did was crank on the heat.

"I'm getting warm!" Blodget said.

Thousands lost power following Monday's severe storms, and JEA crews were out Tuesday night still trying to restore power to a handful of neighborhoods up and down Merrill Road.

According to the JEA website, only a handful of customers remained without power late Tuesday night.
