Pedestrian on I-10 in Baker County struck, killed

Accident closed westbound lanes of I-10 for hours

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident in Baker County that blocked all westbound lanes of Interstate 10 for hours early Saturday morning.

The accident happened at about 3:20 a.m. just west of County Road 125.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer was traveling west on I-10. For an unknown reason, 48-year-old Mark Belford was in the I-10 travel lane. The semi driver, 48-year-old Bobby Cook, was unable to avoid hitting Belford due to surrounding traffic. The right side of the semi hit Belford, killing him. 

The investigation is ongoing. 

Shortly after the first accident, a Baker County sheriff's patrol car was blocking both westbound lanes of I-10 with its emergency lights on. A Kia Soul failed to stop and hit the parked patrol car.

The Baker County Deputy was outside of his vehicle when the collision occurred. No one was injured. The driver of the car, Andrew Dorchy, of Lake City was cited with careless driving.
