FDOT holds open houses on express lane projects

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation hosted an open house event Tuesday night at the University of North Florida in the Adam Herbert University Center, to share information on a proposal to add new express lanes in Jacksonville.

Local residents got the chance to look over the plans for the lanes that could be built between State Road 9-B and Jay Turner Butler Boulevard. After the open house, FDOT staff also gave information on the express lane project that is currently under construction on Interstate 95 and the Buckman Bridge.

Ron Tittle, with FDOT, explained to News4Jax how the road project could benefit our area.

"So what we're looking at and proposing is to be able to do express lanes -- help move the traffic more efficiently to help cut down on some of the congestion going on here," he said.

On Thursday, another construction open house is scheduled for the current project at Mandarin Baptist Church on San Jose Boulevard. This informal open house is at 4:30, with more details available on the project between I-95 and the Buckman Bridge.

SunPass representatives will be at each location to discuss how the SunPass works and how to purchase them in preparation for their future use on the express lanes. Motorists may also buy a SunPass and have their accounts set up there at each meeting.
