FDOT upgrading drainage along Interstate 10

Plan affects stretch of highway between Lane and Cassat avenues

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Construction is underway on a Florida Department of Transportation project to improve drainage along Interstate 10 from Cassat Avenue to just east of Lane Avenue.

The project includes adding a drainage pond on the north side of Stuart Avenue between Beverly Lane and Cynthia Street. Drainage pipes will be installed along the JEA easement west of Price Street from the new pond to I-10.

New drainage pipes will also be installed on the north side of I-10 to Cassat Avenue. This project will connect these new drainage structures to an existing stormwater system along Cassat Avenue.

Local streets may have weekday lane closures and possible detours but no lane closures are expected on I-10. The contractor is also allowed to work Saturdays and at night, if needed.

As the drainage pipes are installed under Ellis Road, traffic will be detoured to Ramona Boulevard, Lane and Highway avenues. Also, Cassidy Road traffic will be detoured to Roberts Street or Ellis Road, Highway, Lane and Stuart avenues and Cynthia Street during this same operation.

FDOT hired Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc. of Jacksonville to complete the project for $6.3 million. Completion is scheduled in late 2016.
