Driver ID'd in fatal U.S. 17 Clay Co. crash

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – While driving through heavy fog on U.S. Route 17 Friday morning, Willie Strozier, 55, collided with a semitruck in an accident that ended his life.

Strozier's Suburban hit the back left side of the semi's trailer as it was trying to switch lanes in the dense fog, eventually stopping under the semitruck's back wheels.

The crash happened about 8:45 a.m. near Decoy Road and closed U.S. Route 17 for several hours.  

Ten units from Clay County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, but no patients were transported.

Industrial Surfacing & Lining sent a statement to News4Jax saying;

"Mr. Willie Strozier  was a wonderful employee.  We were really stunned by the news when he didn't show up for work this morning.  Since his employment with us Mr. Strozier was a leader among his co-workers and sadly will be missed."
