FHP: 7 hospitalized after I-295 crash

FHP says 7 injured in accident, including 1 toddler

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol says seven people have been taken to the hospital after an accident Sunday night on Interstate 295.

A person was walking along I-295 near Beach Boulevard about 8 p.m. when a red car pulled over to offer assistance.

FHP said a black Jeep then rear-ended the red car, causing it to ram into the pedestrian. That person was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition.

Authorities said the people in the red car were all wearing seat belts and were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The people in the black Jeep were not wearing seat belts, according to FHP. They were taken to the hospital in serious or life-threatening condition.

FHP said one of the victims is a toddler. Authorities have not yet identified the makes of the cars or of those involved in the crash.
