Fight leads to double shooting in NW Jacksonville

Man critical, another with minor injuries after shooting at apartment complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One man is in critical condition and another suffered minor injuries after a double shooting in northwest Jacksonville.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Shannon Ridge Apartment Complex on Shenandoah Avenue.

Police said one man is in his 20s and the other is in his early 30s.

Priscilla Rawls described seeing at least five men fighting in the middle of the apartment complex. Next thing she knew, things went from bad to worse.

"Six or seven shots. Six or seven shots. Bam, bam, bam, bam. Then they stopped for a minute then shot a couple more," Rawls said. "Somebody got shot in the arm. I was down there trying to put pressure on the man that was shot in the arm. My sister was in there trying to put pressure on the man who was shot in the chest."

A police investigation is underway. They have not released a description of the shooter.

"It's just unsafe out here," Rawls said. "Kids can't play out the door, they're fighting all the time out here. Kids aren't okay, you've got to watch them all the time. It's just unsafe out here."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
