Fight over 7-Eleven continues

St. Augustine developer works to build convenience store

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The fight over a proposed 7-Eleven convenience store continues in St. Augustine. Monday night, four of the five St. Augustine commissioners deadlocked over the developers appeal to build the convenience store.

The developer wants to build the 7-Eleven at the intersection of San Marco Avenue and May Street, but the city said the plan for the store didn't meet some of their requirements. The developer appealed that decision Monday night.

A proposed ordinance during Monday's meeting would have also restricted the number of gas stations on certain streets, prohibiting any new gas stations from being built on San Marco Avenue.

Two commissioners voted for the ordinance Monday and two voted against it. The fifth was not available to break the deadlock Monday night.

The 7-eleven developer's attorney said they now plan to bring their proposal back before the City Commission.
