Fire breaks out at North Edgewood Avenue business

Building empty when fire crews arrived

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A business on North Edgewood Avenue is considered a total loss after a fire about 4 a.m. Friday, according to the Jacksonville Fire Department

Fire crews were called about 4 a.m. to North Edgewood Avenue, just north of West 12th Street.  All lanes of Edgewood were closed for several hours while firefighters battled the blaze.

Fire officials said the building was empty when the fire broke out. The building's owner Gene Paschal, said the property used to be a motorcycle social club, but he was in the process of turning it into a storage facility. He added that, occasionally, motorcycle clubs gathered there, especially when they were about to leave for long trips.

Paschall told News4Jax that an investigator told him the fire would be reported as a "weather-related" lightning strike. The state fire marshal is investigating.
