Fire burns NW Jacksonville home; man hospitalized

Fire broke out on West 33rd Street

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was hospitalized early Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at a home in the 1500 block of West 33rd Street in Northwest Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue received a call at 7:45 a.m. stating the home's porch was on fire.  Firefighters arrived on scene and extinguished it quickly.

A man who lives at the home was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with breathing problems.

The fire started on a couch on the porch, according to JFRD.  The cause of the fire was unknown.

The Red Cross was on scene to assist four other people that rent the home.
