ORANGE PARK, Fla. -

Firefighters from Clay County and surrounding areas battled a two-alarm fire Saturday morning at an apartment complex off Wells Road.

After receiving a 911 fire at 8:49 a.m. about the fire at the Landmark at Vista Grande complex, the first arriving engine declared it a working fire and asked for assistance.

Between Clay County, Orange Park, Jacksonville Fire Rescue and NAS Jacksonville, a  total of nine engine companies battled the fire.

Clay County spokeswoman Bernita Bush said the fire was under control at 9:44 a.m, but that firefighters would spend several hours extinguishing hot spots.

The fire damaged or destroyed at least 13 apartments within Building 1.  The American Red Cross was called to assist families displaced by the fire.

One firefighter suffered a twisted knee and was transported to Orange Park Medical Center.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Clay County authorities and the state fire marshal's office.
