Fire destroys home in Ponte Vedra Beach

SJCFR: Home was boarded up, appeared unoccupied

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – A fire destroyed a home in Ponte Vedra Beach early Sunday morning, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

The single-story home is located in the 300 block of North Sea Lake Lane.

When firefighters arrived, they said flames were shooting through the roof.

It took crews approximately 30 minutes to knock the fire down and another 90 minutes to extinguish numerous remaining small fires.

No one was injured.

Randy Alvarez, who shot video of the fire, said he lived next door to the burning home and could feel the heat coming from the fire.

"We were preparing to evacuate because the trees were starting to burn," Alvarez wrote in an email. "Thanks to the firefighters for doing what they do to keep us safe."

The home was boarded up and appeared to be unoccupied.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
