JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – About 100 students and staff at Ortega Elementary School were evacuated Tuesday after a fire was reported in the school's auditorium.
Sources within Jacksonville Fire-Rescue confirmed there was a small electrical fire reported Tuesday morning under the stage, but it was quickly contained and there were no injuries. JFR said the fire caused about $10,000 in damage.
School officials said no children were in any danger because the auditorium is in a separate building from the rest of the school.
Students returned to their classrooms just after 11 a.m.
"I got your alert over my phone," said Debbie White, the grandmother of a first-grader. "She was just a little upset, so I decided just to take her home."
