Fire scare prompts 2 school evacuations

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Students and teachers in two Jacksonville elementary schools had quite a shock Wednesday after the schools had to be evacuated over concerns of fire.

The first evacuation of the day happened at Crown Point Elementary School when a fire alarm went off prompting an evacuation of the school.

Officials said that there was no fire or emergency at the school, and they are still investigating what caused the alarm to go off.

The second incident occurred at Sallye B. Mathis when four classrooms began filling with a light haze, prompting the evacuation of the school.

Officials later determined that the haze was from a burned-out air conditioner unit and there was not a danger to students.
