Fisherman reels in 600-pound mako shark

7 men struggle with shark for 90 minutes

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – A Florida fisherman has quite the shark tale after he struggled to reel in a 600-pound catch.

Matthew Pemberton and his crew gave tourists a thrilling show when the massive shark caught hold of his line Friday off the coast of Panama City Beach.

Pemberton said it took seven men an hour and a half to reel in their prize, a 10-foot long mako shark.

"You catch fish in a river and you catch fish in a lake, but you come out to the ocean and it's a whole different story," Pemberton told WMBB-TV.

Pemberton makes his living catching the biggest fish in the water, but said his latest find is one he'll never forget.

According to the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation, male mako sharks mature at around 6.5 feet.
