A group that supports same-sex marriage in Florida isn't confident an upcoming U.S. Supreme Court ruling will nullify the state's gay marriage ban and is preparing a public opinion campaign while waiting for the court to decide.
Equality Florida said it is starting a new effort to increase support among Floridians for gay marriage. Executive director Nadine Smith said she believes that a majority of Floridians support the idea, but it will take 60 percent voter approval to overturn the ban passed during the 2008 election.
The group calls the effort "Get Engaged" and will use celebrities, T-shirts, bumper stickers and rallies to get its message out. It will also issue an analysis on what it means to Florida when the Supreme Court rules on California's ban on gay marriage.
