Fla. Supreme Court to hear Craigslist killer's appeal

Man convicted of stabbing Navy wife 89 times

David Sparre was sentenced to death by a Duval County judge.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday in the appeal of the conviction and death sentence of David Sparre.

Sparre was convicted in the 2010 slashing death of Tiara Poole, a Navy wife whose husband was on deployment at the time.

Poole contacted Sparre thru Craigslist. He stabbed her 89 times in what he admitted was a thrill killing.

During the penalty phase, Sparre told his lawyer he didn't want any mitigating evidence presented and didn't want family members called to beg for his life.

The jury came back with a quick 12-0 death sentence recommendation.

Now Sparre's appeal lawyers are saying the judge should have had the jury hear about Sparre's mental health issues.
